Politeama Margherita
The politeama Margherita faces on to the old port, almost blocking the view of corso Vittorio Emmanuele II. The theatre is a real jewel of Italian liberty style architecture. It was built in 1914 based on a project of the engineer Francesco De Giglio, on site of wooden building used for public performances, which was destroyed in a fire. It was closed in 1977 and has been left abandoned and in oblivion for several years, however there are plans to restore it to its former splendour.
