The University of Banja Luka was foundered on 7th November 1975. Today it has 13 faculties, amongst which there is the Faculty of Philosophy divided into 11 departments, the youngest being that of the department of Italian Language and Literature and the department of Serbian Language and Literature. The Rectorate and most of the faculties can be found at the ex Vrbas barracks, near the river Vrbas, while the other are in the centre.
